Who doesn’t love a bit of Candy Crush? In recent years, mobile gaming has skyrocketed in popularity. We’re now at a place where most people have some sort of online game on their phone or tablet, from sudoku puzzle games to Monopoly Go. But why is everyone so into mobile gaming now, and where did it come from?

Convenience

Though PCs and consoles can be a great way to play games online with your friends, if you’re a busy person – or somebody who’s more into low-energy games – mobile games will be far more convenient. You can play while waiting for somebody in the car, or while travelling to a different location – and mobile games are a great way for those who don’t consider themselves “traditional gamers” to get into gaming that may be less intensive or less time consuming than console games

Improved graphics

No longer are we playing Snake on our old, brick-like Nokia phones, now mobile games are continuing to match their traditional counterparts, with advanced graphics, immersive audio, and even adding augmented reality and virtual reality to add new and exciting ways to play. Even more chill games such as Slingo or Sudoku, have improved graphics that rival a console.

Pop Culture

Many mobile games team up with popular TV shows – such as Game of Thrones, The Simpsons, SpongeBob and more – so if you’re looking for extra content around your favourite characters, movies and TV shows, these games can be a great way to get that little extra fix.

Accessibility/Low barrier to entry

Unlike traditional gaming – which often involves you having to purchase a large, expensive system such as a console or a desktop – mobile gaming only requires the phone or tablet you want to play on, and occasionally an internet connection. You can also play games with friends quickly and easily – as well as have the game be transportable if you’re somebody who has an energy-limiting condition and wants to game from the bed or sofa.
