Signs Employee Morale Is Low And What To Do About It

A happy employee is a productive employee. A happy employee is a loyal employee. A happy employee is one who produces their best work. So, when morale levels are low amongst your workforce, it can be worrying. With that in mind, read on to discover the signs of low employee morale in the workplace, as well as some advice regarding how you can counteract it.

Some signs of low employee morale:

Unmotivated, uninspired and dejected employees can act in different ways. Nevertheless, poor performance is a clear indicator that something is wrong. Low morale can have an impact on quality of work, so keep an eye out for a decline in service levels, as well as an increase in mistakes and missed deadlines. In addition to this, you may notice a lack of initiative and that your employees do not appear engaged. If there is no ‘get up and go’ attitude in the workplace, this is probably because the morale is low.

A more evident sign of low morale is if there are more conflicts in the workplace and a greater number of disagreements. If you have noticed the blame game seems to be going on quite a bit, you need to investigate the reasons why. You also need to pay attention to the attitude of your team members. If someone is unhappy, they will show it. Look for red flags like reduced commitment or cooperation, increased or high rates of absenteeism, and increased negativity.

What can you do about low employee morale?

If you have noticed any of the signs that have been mentioned above, it is important to act quickly so that you can counteract the negative vibe amongst your workforce. The first thing you should do is talk to your employees so that you can get to the root of the problem. After all, if you do not know where this bad feeling has come from, how are you going to be able to fix it? Talk to your workers and find out why they are disgruntled. Don’t take any criticism personally. Use it to improve your business.

Aside from this, there are a few other ways you can improve team morale. One option is to organise a fun event for outside of the workplace to show your employees how much you appreciate them and so you can bring everyone together. Consider Wimbledon hospitality tickets or something similar. An event like this is something that everyone can enjoy and they will remember for a long time. Something like this should completely transform the feel in the office. Furthermore, make sure your employees know how much you appreciate them by giving them positive feedback and saying ‘thank you’ – those two words can go a very long way!

Hopefully, you now feel better placed to recognise low levels of employee morale in the workplace. If this is something your business is experiencing at the moment, use the advice that has been provided above to rectify it as soon as possible.
