Running a business is tough and it takes a lot of hard work and grit to make it succeed. As a small business owner you want to make sure that every single day you spend in the office is as productive as it can be and this will allow you to get more work done and therefore open yourself up to a higher volume of orders. Today we are taking a look at some of the ways that you can increase productivity in the office.

Multitask

If you want to improve your business and the way it runs a good idea for you is to carry out more than one task or one order at once. In general terms this could mean designing images for your website while also creating some content for the week ahead. For a more specific example let’s say you are a watercolour artist who takes commissions for your jobs. If you want to be as productive as you can a great idea would be to always have 2-3 pieces on the go at once. While waiting for one piece to dry you could be adding colour to a new piece, and then sketching out another. This way you will always be doing more than one job at once and your day will be a lot more productive as a result of this.

Write a list

As much as some of us really enjoy writing lists, not all of us ever stick to them and use them throughout our working day. A to do list can be invaluable if you always have a lot of different tasks to get done in a certain time frame and it will ensure that you don’t forget anything important. Rather than creating a list in the morning though, do it at the end of the day before because this will allow you to get straight to work when you do get into the office. No more spending the first hour of the day catching up and remembering what you were doing because you can get right into it.

Small bursts

Although it might be tempting to finish a big job once you have started it, sometimes the time it takes you to do the work will cause your productivity and quality of work to stop because you simply can’t think about anything else. When you have been working on one task for a while it can become tiring and it is important for you to think about taking a break and starting something else for a while instead. The break you take will allow your mind to relax and refresh, so that when you come back to the first task you’ll be ready to tackle it head on.

There are a lot of ways for you to increase productivity in the workplace this week such as regular breaks, organised workspaces and team meetings for morale. Make sure that you find a workflow which works for you and the rest will follow along for the ride.
