Some of you may have already read the interview I did with Diana Street, the Founder of Peaceful Harmony, where she talks about Reiki and the many benefits that it can bring. I must admit to having been quite sceptical of it and unsure as to whether it was for me but for the last few months – when time allowed – I attended her monthly Reiki group that takes place on the first Wednesday of every month.
The group was an eclectic mix of people who all had their own challenges with life, and who were looking to Reiki to help heal them from all sorts of things from financial problems, divorce, bereavement, grief and more. I especially was looking for help to deal with a myriad of bereavements that I have suffered since November 2013, which started with when my much loved and much wanted son Frankie was born sleeping when I was 33 weeks pregnant.
Reiki focuses on healing the chakras of your body where you get stressed the most, and it is so relaxing and insightful. It also allows you to deal with things more clearly and break down everything that are happening in your life so that those things become a lot less stressful. They don’t go away, but through Reiki you learn to manage them better.
At the most recent group meeting, Diana gave us a brilliant analogy and it was like a “lightbulb” had gone off in my head.
She said that when you are on an aeroplane and they are playing the safety video, they always tell you to get the oxygen mask and life jacket on yourself in the event of an emergency before you help anyone else. However, your natural instincts are to help others first, but then if you do that it might be too late for you to help yourself. I realised it is so true – we must help ourselves in life in anything before we can help others. Only then will we be in a position to truly help others to the best of our abilities.
Following my attendance at the group meetings, I booked a 1-2-1 meeting with Diana for more personalised Reiki healing. As I currently have lots of things going on I thought I would benefit from this immensely, and I was not wrong. Since attending the 1-1-2 Reiki session with Diana I have felt freer, more relaxed and better able to cope with whatever is thrown my way. She focused on healing the stress I was carrying in my back, neck and shoulders and almost immediately I could feel my stress levels improving. Even better, I had the best nights sleep after my 1-2-1 Reiki session with Diana than I have had in a long time!
She also did an exercise with me called the “ship exercise”which was also a huge eye opener, because it meant that even if one part of my ship was to go down I would be supported by all the others, and the meridian points exercise she showed me was incredible. It brought my stress levels down from 10 (they could have been 11 if I could go that far) to a 3 or a 4 – amazing!
We also sent distant healing to my Dad who is not at all well – Diana via distant Reiki healing and me via loving thoughts to him as I am not yet trained in Reiki and able to give Reiki healing to anyone. I’m sure it was no coincidence that the next day he seemed brighter in himself, more so than he had in weeks, although his current health ailments are still there. I am totalloy convinced in the power of Reiki healing.
I’m investigating the possibility of doing Reiki 1 which will help me to not only heal myself, but also heal others with Reiki when they need it, and I hope to find some time to do this next month if I can.
I cannot thank Diana enough – I’ve been to her a few times for general counselling over the last few years to help me deal with death, bereavement and the loss of my pets, as she specialises in pet bereavement, but Reiki healing is a whole new level entirely.
Thanks to Diana, I feel like I am able to handle what is going on with me a lot better, see the wood from the trees and take what is happening to me for what it is, rather than it being a big burden and the worst things in the world. Reiki healing really does work.
