As someone who is openly neurodivergent and works in the high-pressure world of cyber security, I know all too well how important it is to find ways to switch off, relax, and reconnect with myself. Between delivering keynote speeches, running cyber awareness training sessions, and writing my blog, my mind is constantly buzzing – and that’s before we even factor in my ADHD and autism!
A few months ago, I went to Script Haven in Worcester for an open mic poetry event called “Dear Listener.” While there I had the pleasure of meeting Jo Cox and hearing her poetry for the first time, which I deeply resonated with. I had no idea at the time that she was a massage therapist and ran Flow Holistic Therapy in Worcester. When my husband got a new job in May 2025 which meant he had to be in the office 5 days a week I had to move my existing massage appointment at Sunrise Health and Beauty in Lower Wick as I could only do evenings and weekends. But unfortunately, Angelica who does my massages there couldn’t fit me in until the end of July on a Saturday! There was NO way I could wait that long without a massage, so I took to Google to find an alternative, and Flow Holistic Therapy came up.
I realised that it was run by Jo, and I jumped at the chance to get in touch to book in with her. What drew me to Flow Holistic Therapy was Jo’s approach to holistic massage, especially from how she presented it on her website. This isn’t your typical quick-fix massage experience, and from the moment I walked into her professional treatment room on 5 June 2025 I could sense that Jo understands the importance of creating a safe, calm space where you can truly let go and deeply relax.
The Initial Consultation – A Foundation of Trust
Before my treatment began, Jo spent time with me in an initial consultation that felt genuinely meaningful. As someone who often feels the need to explain my neurodivergent nuances and how it affects my experiences, I was struck by how Jo listened with such presence and attention. She asked thoughtful questions about what I hoped to gain from the treatment – was it stress relief, pain relief, increased mobility, or simply the chance to switch off from my cares and concerns?
What impressed me most was how Jo created this conversation with complete respect and confidentiality. There was no rush, no sense that this was just a box-ticking exercise. She was truly interested in understanding my physical, emotional, and mental needs so we could work together to create a treatment plan tailored specifically to me.
The Treatment – Intuitive Connection in Action
The massage itself was unlike anything I’ve experienced before. Jo has this incredible ability to tune into your body and respond intuitively to exactly what it needs in each moment. Jo has this magical ability to sense exactly what your body is crying out for, even when you don’t know it yourself, and that perfectly captures how I felt throughout the treatment.
During the session, Jo used a range of techniques from light massage and skin rolling to deeper tissue work, rocking, stretching, and what she describes as “energy work.” But what made it special wasn’t just the technical skill (though that was exceptional), it was the way Jo communicated through touch and response. I could feel her paying attention to how my body was responding and adjusting her approach accordingly.
As someone whose mind rarely stops racing, I was amazed at how Jo’s treatment created space for me to simply be present in my body. This isn’t just a massage, it’s a conversation between your body, mind, and Jo’s incredibly intuitive hands. I felt truly heard and understood on every level.
The Holistic Approach – More Than Just Massage
What sets Jo apart as a massage therapist is her understanding that we are whole beings – our physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing are all interconnected. This holistic approach resonated deeply with me, especially as someone who writes openly about mental health, neurodiversity, and the importance of wellness in our lives. Having also been diagnosed with C-PTSD and fibromyalgia as a result of a lifetime of bullying, abuse and trauma I know all too well that the body very definitely keeps the score, my fibromyalgia flare ups are very definitely linked to stressful and traumatic experiences. Jo was very mindful of this which I very much appreciated.
Jo doesn’t just work on your muscles; she creates an experience that allows the flow of communication between your body and mind to be restored. I could feel tensions I didn’t even know I was carrying begin to release, and by the end of the session, I felt more connected to myself than I had in months.
After the Treatment – The Journey Continues
True to Jo’s philosophy, the end of the massage wasn’t really the end at all. As I left her treatment room feeling genuinely relaxed, renewed and revitalised, I realised that was just the beginning of the next phase of my treatment journey. She encouraged me to continue noticing the messages flowing between my body and mind, to deepen my knowledge of how to release and restore. The magic doesn’t stop when you leave Jo’s treatment room – it’s like she gives you tools to carry that sense of flow with you into your everyday life.
I decided there and then that I would combine holistic massage with Jo with the massages I have monthly at Sunrise Health and Beauty in Lower Wick, so I had no hesitation in booking my next one for 31 July. And I wasn’t at all disappointed, the second session was even better than the first. I was so relaxed I could feel myself drifting off to sleep, which I have NEVER done in a massage session ever before.
My Overall Experience – A Resounding Recommendation
I cannot recommend Jo Cox and Flow Holistic Therapy highly enough. As someone who has experienced various massage therapists over the years (and reviewed several on this blog who have now moved on or retired), I can honestly say that Jo’s intuitive approach and genuine care for her clients’ wellbeing sets her apart.
Her treatment room provides a true sanctuary in the heart of busy Worcester city life, and Jo herself brings such warmth, professionalism, and skill to everything she does. Whether you’re dealing with stress, physical tension, or simply need to reconnect with yourself, Jo will meet you exactly where you are and provide the treatment your body and mind need.
For anyone in the Worcester area (or willing to travel!), I would absolutely encourage you to experience Jo’s holistic massage treatments. In our increasingly digital world where we’re constantly switched on, the opportunity to truly switch off and flow is more valuable than ever.
